RECENT PROJECT REPORT

Report of Task Force on Ports Operations:

Arising from the negative impact of port congestion on the operations of some member-companies and the economy as a whole, the American Business Council (ABC) empanelled a Task Force on Ports Operations headed by Mr Godwin Oteri to find out the basic reasons for the congestion and propose possible solutions. ABC plans to work with various stakeholders, including government agencies to ensure that the Ports function better.

ONGOING PILOT PROJECTS

The rationale here is to identify very broad issues which have fundamental impact on Nigerias long-term development and after assessment at the macro level, define a few that will be addressed in depth with a view to achieving practical lasting results meaningful to Nigeria and ABC members. After consideration, ABC decided to focus on the following pilot projects each with a team leader:

a)      Education-With technical school support as priority.

b)      Infrastructure-With power as priority.

c)      Institution Building-With Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as priority.

The IPR Sub-Committee has evolved strategies for protecting intellectual property rights in Nigeria, especially the enforcement of existing laws, which were approved by the Board in June 2007. The strategies have since been translated into an Action Plan for ABCs implementation in collaboration with other stakeholders in due course.
