
Resilience by Fortifying the Nigerian Business Environment
The American Business Council Nigeria (ABC) held its first Economic Update on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Victoria Island, Lagos, attracting over 120 participants, including business leaders, diplomats, policymakers, financial experts, and Chambers of Commerce. Themed “Building Economic Resilience by Fortifying the Nigerian Business Environment,” the event provided a platform for in-depth discussions on critical economic challenges and
opportunities.
Mustafa Chike-Obi, Chairman of the Bank Directors Association of Nigeria and Fidelity Bank, delivered the keynote address, stressing the need for structured, outcome-driven financial reforms. A fireside chat with Chike-Obi, moderated by Chijioke Uwaegbute, and two expert panel sessions explored key issues such as policy execution, infrastructure deficits, high cost of capital, governance, and the skills gap, highlighting the vital role of government MDAs in creating an enabling business environment.
Nonye Ayeni, CEO of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), in a recorded message, spotlighted ongoing efforts to grow non-oil exports through trade capacity building, digital tools, and mentorship. She noted that Nigeria has exported 243 distinct products to 126 countries, strengthening trade relations and supporting FX inflow and naira stability.
Nneka Enwereji, ABC Vice President and CEO of Citi Nigeria, affirmed the Council’s commitment to promoting actionable dialogue and collaborating with stakeholders to drive sustainable economic policies.
