Roundtable Event with the 2023 Vice Presidential Candidates

December 2, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Roundtable event with the 2023 Vice Presidential Candidates was designed to discuss relevant issues in the Nigerian economy, how it affects the private sector and the candidates’ agenda to solve these issues if elected. This ensures practical and actionable outcomes for members of the Council as well as US Nigeria stakeholders in anticipation of the elections.

The speeches delivered by U.S. Ambassador, Mary Beth Leonard with the President of the American Business Council, Mr Dipo Faulkner are reflecting the support of the U.S. government for a free and fair election and the goodwill of the Council to foster economic development through US-Nigeria business relations and partnerships, even in the public sector. The Country Manager of Google Nigeria, Mrs Juliet Ehimuan also addressed the urgent need for investment in the digital space to boost Nigeria’s GDP and bridge the gap in global technological advancement.

The Vice Presidential candidates of the four (4) leading parties, in alphabetical order of the parties, All Progressives Congress (APC)- Kashim Shettima, Labour Party (LP) – Yusuf Baba-Datti Ahmed, Nigeria’s National Democratic Party (NNDP) – Bishop Isaac Idahosa and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – His Excellency Ifeanyi Okowa discussed their manifestos and shared their plans on pivotal sectors of Nigeria’s economy such as infrastructure, agriculture,  foreign exchange and digital technology set to receive gainful attention and transform the present state of Nigeria’s economy upon their appointment.

This event was set up to address critical questions from the private sector and how the interests of Nigerian government and US businesses are in alignment to foster economic development – to give a blueprint of the focus areas in Nigeria’s economy as the elections beckon.
