
On May 3, 2025 The American Business Council (ABC), in partnership with Ascend Studio, hosted a strategic session at the Science of Trade Conference.
The event convened key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors to explore strategies for enhancing collaboration among government institutions to unlock Africa’s market potential under the AfCFTA framework. In her opening remarks, Margaret Olele, CEO of ABC Nigeria, emphasized the importance of trade-friendly policies, particularly in promoting non-oil exports between Nigeria, the broader African region, and the United States.
The keynote address was delivered by Ayo Sotirin, Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture, on the topic: “Advancing African Market Access and AfCFTA: Optimising the Roles of MDAs Critical to Growth.”
The panel session focused on “Public-Private Synergy: Strengthening Collaboration to Expand Africa Market Access,” moderated by Chijioke Odo, West Africa Global Trade Advisory Leader at Deloitte. Panelists included Lawal Abdullahi, (COO), FAAN, Olasumbo Adeleke, (MD), Hayloft Limited, Abayomi Salami, Director of Policy Advocacy, NIPC, Chinonso Clare Ofodile, Development Economist & Trade-Environment Specialist.
Participants described the session as “inspiring and solution-driven,” commending ABC and Ascend Studio for curating a meaningful dialogue on expanding trade and investment opportunities through AfCFTA.
